Coun Richard Jackson, cabinet member for transport and highways, is quoted as telling Clipstone PC that "The proposal for traffic calming is currently being considered. We are currently waiting for more information ... on pedestrian levels!".
This seems odd as the local Road and Traffic Safety Group has worked closely with NCC Highways for more than three years, both in providing information and in achieving unanimous support locally for the outline scheme they had produced and promised publicly to implement by 'the end of this summer'.
So what more do you want to know Cllr Jackson? Surely even a cursory glance through the Highways Department papers will have shown you that this road is so dangerous for pedestrians that residents don't risk their lives walking through the village as the only safe way to go the few hundred yards from one end of the village to the other is to go by car?
Try it for yourself sometime, Cllr Jackson.
Coun Cllr Les Ward and Paddy Tipping MP have both pledged continuing support for the RATS so all may not be lost. And news that pavements in Nottinghamshire are set for £1.9m-worth of improvements to be paid for from funds set aside for the now-abandoned Ollerton roundabout improvement scheme may give us a glimmer of hope.
But this is yet another broken promise from Notts CC.
